The hero of the day is a person who displays courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities. These are people who change the world in a positive way. They clean up rivers, build homes for disabled veterans and bring health care to some of the darkest parts of our planet. They are the true heroes of our time.

He was nominated for a Presidential Medal of Freedom and received every military combat award available at the time. That’s a lot of heroism.

He may have been just 19 when he stood on D Day, but this WWII vet did more than any other veteran to preserve the stories of his buddies who died. This hero also went on to do more for veterans and their families in his lifetime than most could do in a career.
